Thank you for your Post article about rule-followers. Rule-followers keep our country running. I can see a book in this topic. For you to write, not me!
When is it okay to not follow rules? In the military, you aren’t supposed to follow unlawful orders. Are orders the same as rules? If my school principal tells me to not follow a child’s IEP, am I breaking rules, or do I break the rules by not following directions? Is it okay to break a rule that doesn’t affect others, or only a tiny bit (like the candy smuggled into movie theaters)? In history, have rule-followers been vindicated over time? Hilary Clinton was mocked as a goody-goody by Trump. Are words like goody-goody due to superiority of those who don’t follow rules? Prince Andrew, among others, is accused of breaking laws, which are rules, but others break much more minor laws and are imprisoned for decades. As you can see, there is a book here for you, although I suspect such books already exist. I mostly read detective fiction, so I wouldn’t know.
I really liked your column!!
